Weta Workshop at Comic-Con 2012 had several items straight from Middle-Earth. Some of their eye popping The Lord of the Rings items included the much anticipated Fellowship diorama series and the truly amazing looking Barad-Dur environment. Weta also introduced us to their 1:6th line of statues from the first of two films based on The Hobbit. Representing the start of the line you had characters such as Gandalf The Grey, Bilbo Baggins, Dwalin (my favorite), Balin, Bombur, and Thorin (Comic-Con Exclusive version). They also had some props from the film that will like these statues be up for sale come October. As, I just mentioned the Thorin you will see is their Comic-Con Ex version and a regular version minus a piece of his shield will be up for sale in October. Weta had one of the coolest booths at the Con this year with all the items and the Trolls who feature in the film and The Fellowship of the Ring.

Weta Workshop has announced an item fans of The Lord of the Rings have been asking for a very very long time. For years we’ve been clamoring for someone to make statues or a diorama piece of the Fellowship as they made their trip across Middle-Earth to destroy The One Ring. Now, that it’s hear folks can finally start the Pre-Order process through Weta. Set 1 is up right now for the price of $200 and will not be shipping until quarter four of this year so you have time to save. The other two sets will be announced in 2012 and most likely during Comic-Con 2012.
Recently Sideshow Collectibles and Weta Workshop have made Ringer collectors very very happy. The folks from Sideshow Collectibles announced the next statue being previewed in their The Lord of the Rings statue line is the Witch King in True Form following up the really awesome Ringwraith statue which is also of the Witch King. This piece most likely will be previewed during Comic-Con where we will get more information. Weta Workshop has announced they’ve been granted the rights to make various collectibles from the two upcoming The Hobbit films by Peter Jackson. It sounds like we should see items from this range of collectibles at Comic-Con.
Today was a big day for collectors. Sideshow Collectibles, Hot Toys, and the folks from Weta are making collectors around the world very happy. The Lord of the Rings fans are getting a truly awesome treat from Weta with the announcement they will be making the environment Barad-Dur: Fortress of Sauron. Weta will be letting us know along the way the process to bringing this collectible to life and as soon as any info is out I will let you know.
Star Wars fans got a real treat from Sideshow Collectibles today via their Facebook page with a preview of the new 1:6th Darth Vader figure with reveal sculpt. No word on anything just yet on price or not but I would expect as we get closer to Comic-Con we’ll know more. Sideshow also via their Sideshow Experience page of an upcoming premium format for the character Hawkeye. Hot Toys and Sideshow have teamed up for one of Sideshow’s Comic-Con Exclusive in the USO Rescue Captain America 1:6th figure via their Facebook page.
This week collectors had were given the chance to order multiple items from all the major collecting companies from any license they really would want to buy from. These companies literally covered all my favorite licenses this week with The Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and Star Wars. Needless to say this was a great week for collectors on top of a great film like The Avengers coming out.
Now what exactly came out and from whom:
Sideshow Collectibles – Sideshow released the first statue from what is sure to be an amazing line of statues from the Star Wars saga. Darth Maul is the first character from the new Mythos line which gives us a look at the Star Wars characters we love but in moments we didn’t see in the films or cartoon. Maul in his statue is obviously training as he prepares to do Darth Sidious bidding in tearing apart the galaxy. The price for Darth Maul is $250 with a $25 NRD and a shipping in October of 2012. Do so now before its too late and you’re left holding the bag.
Weta Workshop – The folks at Weta released the third statue in their mini-statue line of characters from The Lord of the Rings. The character who is joining the line up of characters is none other than that ranger known as Strider. This amazing statue is such a great representation of the character and happens to be from a moment when we first meeting him both in the movie and book. The price for Stirder is only $75 and he won’t be shipping until September/October of this year so please make sure you get this statue.
Hot Toys – Hot Toys has given us the next character from this summer’s amazing move The Avengers with The God of Thunder himself Thor. This version of Thor is pretty awesome and I think a bit better than the first figure of the character. Thor comes with multiple hands and the cosmic cubes holding tube which will run you $200 but he won’t be shipping until December of this year. You can order this through Sideshow Collectibles or your favorite etailer.
Gentle Giant – Another item from The Avengers comes to us from the folks of Gentle Giant. The Mark VII suit that Tony Stark breaks out during the movie is the first mini-bust from Gentle Giant for The Avengers. Right now the image is just a conceptual photo from the movie but it gives you an idea of what it will look like. Also if you order this weekend it will only cost you $59 with free shipping and starting Monday it will bump up to $85.
The folks at the TORN (TheOneRing.Net) have posted a review of Weta’s brand new Gandalf the Grey statue. Looking at the pics of this piece I would say if you’re a fan of The Lord of the Rings you should really add this to your collection. This is yet another amazing collectible from Weta so go check out TORN‘s review of Gadanlf and then grab one!

Thank you everyone who takes the time to check this blog out! You help make all the time put into giving you the news worth it and are the reason why I love sharing my passion. I hope that 2012 is a fantastic year for you and one you’ll never forget for good reasons.
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 21,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 8 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
Comic-Con may have come and gone a week ago but we’re still going to be rocking it here for a few days as I add more of the photos I took during the event. This year was crazy good and I’m already looking forward to 2012. As always thanks for checking out the blog!
